Father's Day 2009

We had a great day celebrating the great fathers in our family. Josh, James, Jack, and I started out in The Woodlands at the end of our Summer Regional with Josh's work. We ate a delicious breakfast and then drove back home to Elizabeth and Bryon's house to eat steaks with the family!

I asked James what his favorite thing about Daddy was, and he said, "Ummmm...He plays wif me." I'm so thankful that my boys have this man to call Daddy!

Visiting Lydia

(Last of 4 new posts)
Last weekend we went to visit my newest little niece/love, Lydia! Lydia is absolutely precious and is a beauty! I looked at Jilinda's baby pictures and thought she looked like a clone, but then I looked at Michael's and I see a lot of him too! It is so neat to see Michael and Jilinda as parents. They are so sweet and caring with her, and Lydia is one blessed little girl to have them as parents.

We had a lot of fun swimming, eating good food, and just interacting with the babies! This is the first time on my side of the family that two babies have been born close together. She and Jack are going to have lots of fun together!

Jack and I spent the night so we could hang out with Lydia and Jilinda on Monday. I wish we could move our two cities closer together on the map so that we could do that every day! I miss little Lydie-bug and can't wait to see her again!

Jack's New Face and More

Jack makes this face all the time right now. He even sometimes will scrunch up his nose while doing this, and it makes him look like an old man with no teeth!

Today, Jack was so noisy in church that I had to constantly pull out new tricks to try to keep him quiet. He even screamed at the top of his lungs (playfully) as I walked out to feed him. I guess he's at the point where he needs to go to class, but I'm just in denial that we're already there! He makes all kinds of noises that crack me up. Today, I went over to him while he was laying down. He got so excited when he saw me that he jumped and snorted like a pig! I'm so curious how that's going to play out in his personality!

We started letting Jack sleep on his tummy last night and have weaned him off of the swaddle. He usually sleeps on his sides, but yesterday during nap, I put him on his tummy. He was so happy and slept so soundly that I put him like that for bedtime last night. He slept all night long! This is a huge improvement from his usual hourly to every-other-hourly wakings! I think we'll be doing this every night now!

Jack also has been rocking on his hands and knees. I think this boy is going to be in motion soon!

I took Jack to his 6 month checkup Thursday and everything went great! He is 18 lbs, 13 oz an 26.5 inches. That's 75% for weight and 45% for height. The doctor commented that he's very social and strong, and laughed at his enormous thighs and rear-end. He said that it almost looks like his has two different bodies put together at the waist! I totally agree and have thought that before!

Jack so far has like every new food! We think he's allergic to avacado, so we're stopping that one. This week we're doing pears, which has helped with his constipation. My mom got me a Happy Baby Food Grinder (I linked it) that she used when we were kids, and I love it! She found it on EBay, and I highly recommend it!

Jack is getting to be even more of a mama's boy! He started lunging for me this week and just puts his head onto me when he misses me and I pick him up. This just makes my heart so happy!

My BIG Boy!

When did this happen? James is such a big boy all of a sudden! He has changed so much since he turned three...

**James is potty training! I read a book with potty training songs to him Thursday morning, and he told me, "I'm going to potty train today!" He went to the potty all day, stayed dry at the doctor (even though it was crazy taking him and Jack to the bathroom twice in 30 minutes), and then wanted to wear his diaper to bed. The next morning, he was ready to go again. He had a few accidents, but mostly did great!

Friday night, I said, "Let's put on your diaper for bed." and he said, "I don't wear diapers anymore!" We said okay and put a towel underneath him. I just knew we'd get woken up with him crying from wetting the bed. We woke up the next morning, and he was dry!! He did really well on Saturday and had only one accident. Last night, he stayed dry again! I'm just shocked that we are already done with diapers with him! Now we're just really working on going #2. Without getting too detailed, he likes to go standing up.

**James has gotten so much easier to go out and about with. We went to San Antonio recently, and he was an angel. I took him with me to go shopping yesterday, and he was so grown up. Not to say that he doesn't have his moments, but he has always been a demanding, strong-willed kiddo, and overall, things are just easier with him.

**James is eating so much better. His food repertoire is expanding and he's asking for more and more foods now! That makes my job a little easier!

**James' pretending has reached a whole new level. He pretends constantly and has so much fun acting things out. The pantry is his garage, he'll put something on the bottom of a straw and it's a rocket ship, the Subway pizza box is a parking garage and the flap is the entrance, the line of trees in the backyard is the forest, the country, or the woods, and many more things. I think one of James' strengths is going to be his creativity. He really thinks outside the box and sees things that I would never have thought of. He creates lots of scenarios in inventive ways and sees things not just for what they are, but what else they could be. When he was barely old enough to say these words, he would take a bite out of a sandwich and tell me what it looked like...and it always did!

I though this was cute. He told me this was the airport, and I thought it really looked like one!

Jack's First Day of School!

...And Mine!

I am teaching the babies for the Summer, so I get to be Jack's teacher! Our first day went so great together. When we were singing songs together, Jack was just glued to me and smiling. When I started singing, "Pat-a-cake", he got visibly excited and started cooing! That's one we sing a lot together, and he showed me that he knew and loved that one! It was so neat!

Happy 1/2 Birthday to You, Jack!

What a wonderful month this has been with our little Jack! Jack has changed so much lately and is becoming such a little person already! I am crazy about this age and growing more and more in love with my precious baby boy every day.

Just this week, Jack has started sitting up so well. He'll start to tip over and catch himself now. I love the sitting up stage. He seems really happy being able to do that.

He finally rolled over two weeks ago! Crazy how close these two milestones were to eachother! He still doesn't like to roll over, though. He does not like to be on his belly. He's getting very close to rolling from back to front now.

Jack cut another tooth last week. His precious smile just got even cuter!

He is incredibly smiley and happy. He will smile at everyone and just study them.

He is a huge mama's boy. He absolutely melts my heart every day just by the way he gazes at me lovingly. He lights up most for me, and when he first sees me when I walk over to him, he looks at me as if he's saying, "Ahh...THERE you are!"

He has flirty eyebrows and moves one up and down when someone's really smiling and talking to him.

He's starting to get his voice and is just starting to use different sound combos. He has a deep voice that sounds similar to James'.

He is scooting more and more. He's trying so hard to get around by himself! I am not ready for the crawling stage, but I know it's just around the corner!

He is really taking to food now. He loves to sit in his highchair and eats rice cereal twice a day (which is making him chunk up even more). We tried bananas yesterday in a mesh bag, and he loved it! We are going to try avacados at the end of the week. I love introducing new foods to him! I'm going to make my own baby food this time, since several of my friends have inspired me to do so! Plus, I spent $1.17 on two servings of applesauce, and I'm not going to do that again.

He is noisy, noisy! He screams the highest pitch scream I've ever heard every day for a while. They're happy screams, but they are disrupting in public places and have made me have to take him out of restaurants.

I love his sweet expressions, the way he puts his arms around my neck and gets really still when I pick him up, the way he puts his hands on my face, the look in his eyes when he's so intrigued by what I'm saying/doing, kissing his sweet mouth over and over and over, his precious, fat hands and feet, his ENORMOUS thighs (I gotta get a picture), his cheeks when he smiles, his smell, his crazy/fuzzy hair, his sparkly eyes, they way he jumps with excitement when I surprise him around the corner or over the bed, his morning sweetness, the way he wakes up in a good mood and smiles huge smiles when I come in to get him out of bed, how he laughs when he's tickled, the way he talks to and lights up for his brother, how he talks to other babies, etc, etc, etc!

I did the baby personality quiz from Baby Whisperer, and he is 1/2 angel baby, 1/2 spirited baby. That's exactly what I thought he was. He is going to be very very sweet, I can already tell. But, he's also active, loud, and a little demanding. (What is up with me having 2 demanding boys??) I am in love with his personality and can't wait to see it develop and unfold over the years!
