Question

I have a question to all you ladies who have been pregnant before. Did you take hot baths while pregant?? I am a hot bath addict, being cold natured, and have heard conflicting things about whether or not it's okay to take them while pregnant. I know they shouldn't be boiling hot, but what about a warmish-hot one? I have pulled a muscle in my back, and last night all I wanted to do was soak in the tub, but I was too scared. Any thoughts?

I think that the major concern is for hot tubs / jacuzzis that get your body temp above 102 degrees for an extended peroid of time (it can cause brain damage to the baby ~ how's that for information to make you stay up all night w/ worry?). My doctor always told me to do the warm bath, heating pad, and Tylenol regiment as long as it made me feel better, and she's VERY strict about things. Don't stress over it, all will be well. You can always call the DOC (doctor on call) at the office and she or he will answer your question.

I'd check with your doctor first, but I think a "warmish" bath is probably fine. I know hot tubs are a "no-no," though.

I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy!

I couldn't live without my baths. I still used hot water though not nearly as hot as I do when I am not pregnant.

The bigger I got, I kept propping up my big belly where it was mainly out of the water and I only stayed in for 5 minutes or so.

I always had such sore muscles when I was pregnant and baths always seemed to help. I know you are not a hot tubber, but it is strictly forbidden. Stop worrying so much!

Thanks guys! That really helps!! I think I feel better about it now. I probably worry too much about everything.

Man...there are sooooo many things i have yet to learn about pregnancy! I had NO idea that there were issues surrounding warm/hot baths....and i'm a NURSE for crying out loud! ;) I guess it makes sense when you think about it. (but I would think it would only be a big deal for extremely hot temperatures)

It's so funny how women are with their 1st pregnancy. I worried about everything--I would call my doctor if I didn't feel the baby move every hour...
This second pregnancy is so different. Of course I care about the baby, but I realize that my body takes care of her better than I realized and so I'm much more relaxed.
Hang in there Lar. Take a hot bath if you need one..take care of yourself and the baby duck will be just fine...

Same as everyone else said...baths are fine. You aren't supposed to use a hot tub that keeps the temperature a constant high heat, but I don't think it would even hurt doing that every once in awhile (according to my doc). And no to baths after your water breaks, but other than that, you are good to go! You may need Josh's help getting out of the tub as you get bigger & bigger, but that is a topic for another blog!

I was being nosey and looking at your Satterfield family pictures and saw someone I know! Is that Amy Peeler? I don't know her married name, but that has to be her. I knew her at ACU and have wondered what she is up to. We were in club together at ACU, which is like a fake sorority! Please tell her hello for me and let me know about her!! Mandy

It is a small world that MDM knows Amy Christie! Kevin calls it the CofC cult!

Lauren, i agree with what everyone else is saying about the baths...i always bring a cup of cold water with me when i bathe, which always really tastes good to me and it helps keep your body temp down if you are worried :)
how are you feeling? i am feeling better this week.... we are almost through the 1st semester! YEA!!!

Alyssa,
Glad you are feeling better! I just get sick randomly...about once or twice a week, which I can handle. I am so ready to be in the 2nd trimester. That's funny, I didn't even notice you said semester until you corrected it! I think I'll always think of life in semesters!
