Update #3
We went to the neurosurgeon today and were very encouraged. He said Josh has a "crappy" back with old injuries and now a new injury. His disc is herniated and pressing on the nerve. He never wants to opt for surgery at first...only if there is no alternative. He wants to have him do injections in his back for pain relief and to reduce inflamation. He said that works about 50% of the time. If that doesn't work he will have to have surgery. He will also have him go to physical therapy. He said Josh will have to be "smart" and be very careful with his back...no bending, lifting, or twisting. The doctor was very impressive and encouraging to us. We're going to see another doc tomorrow for a second opinion. Thanks so much for all of your prayers!

Thanks for the update! That sounds encouraging, let us know how tomorrow goes, and we will keep pray'n!
Is he able to hold James? I sure hope so, that would be torture if not!
Sounds good, Lauren. You gotta love a dr. that is conservative with surgery. Hang in there.
That is great!!! I hope that they second doc is as hopeful about it as well. Always in our prayers...
Thanks for the updates as always!

I hope and pray that you find the best surgeon out there!! Remind Josh that he can check a surgeon's history through risk management at MDA where he worked one summer. We would be glad to help on this end with that! We love you three!!!

That's great news, Lauren! After the anti-inflammatory shots, is there some kind of physical therapy or strengthening Josh can do to avoid surgery?
I am thinking about ya'll. I hope everything goes well. Keep us updated! Give baby James a big fat kiss for me. And of Corse Joshua too! Love ya'll,
I have been a bit out of the loop and almost called you today to check on Josh. Sounds like you have been given good advice. Praying that all goes well for him! Back pain is the worst! OK ALl pain is the worst! Feel better Josh!
