Josh and I had a great time in Dallas. James was good in the car, which meant we had some nice alone time, knowing that he was content back there. We met Michael and Jilinda, so it was nice to see them, shopped (window shopped), and then met our good friends for dinner. It's funny how different it is going out to eat now that we all have babies. Friday night, we went to dinner with friends who have a one year old, and Saturday night friends who have a 7 month old and 2 and 1/2 year old. It was craziness, with trying to keep their hands out of food, picking things off of the ground that they dropped, etc., the whole time, and I got to see what my life will be like when James is one and two. I can't believe how much they change each year.
Have I mentioned how much I love 4 months? He has gotten to be so much fun! Even though I miss the sweet little bitty baby face, I love seeing his personality emerge and I'm feeling more adjusted to life with a baby than ever. He is quite the little flirt, making all of the college girls on the row behind us at church laugh. I had to put a paci in his mouth finally, because he was starting to be distracting. He's starting to make new sounds, too, that just melt my heart. We think he's going to have a raspy voice sometimes...who knows?!
This might seem weird, but do any of you ever visualize the months of the year or days of the week in your head in a certain way? When I think about the months of the year, they are ALWAYS in a 3D oval shape. Kinda like you're walking around a track. January is at the top left, and then it goes around the oval counter-clockwise ending back up at the top with December on the top right. I am always sensing where I am on the oval, when I think about the date. Right now I'm rounding the bottom end going up to the right. Before you think I'm crazy, Josh and I were watching Primetime Medical Mysteries (one of our favorite shows this summer), and they had a show on Sensoria (I think that's what it's called), where your senses are mixed up. Everybody had different ones. Some people tasted things and saw a certain shape with each flavor. Some people saw a color with each note they heard. It always ran in the family, too. Sisters would have the same problem, although they didn't see it as a problem. They wouldn't have had it any other way. Then they had a girl on who saw the days of the week out in space. I think they called it spacial mapping, but anyway, I started flipping out, because I experience the same thing, but with months! I asked Josh if he did that, and he said no. Then I told Elizabeth, and she told me that she did the same thing, but hers went clockwise. I couldn't believe it! Of course, then we argued over which way was right, which mine is...but, it's crazy how we're sisters and have the same one, just like on the show! I just thought I'd share this and see if there's anyone else out there who experiences this. They say that everyone's brains are capable of associating certain colors with sounds, shapes, with sounds and tastes, etc., but those parts of most of our brains are not developed. Crazy stuff!

Everyone with half a brain knows that January starts in the "1:00" position and the months go clockwise in an oval until December meets it at the "12:00" position!
Hmm...this will be fun to think about it. I don't usually think about how I think.
I do that too, only a bit different. The months are linear...really long and July is right behind me and I am going towards Xmas (It is really bright) and I can not see April yet...to far away! What a random thought! The months coming are always in front of me!
haha! you crazy, smart people! that is so weird and intersting.. the closest thing i have to something like that would be a photographic memory. when i would take exams, i would flip through my notes in my head, word for word.
Elizabeth,
I can't help it that my brain does it the right way and yours does it the opposite!
Tracy,
No one day feels different than the ones around it. It's weird, I know!
Audrey,
You would know if you did this. You don't really have to think about it...hard to explain!
Amanda,
That's so cool that you do it! I know what you mean, because I didn't mention this, but I feel like the days of the week are linear. They don't start over, it's just never-ending.
I didn't know that, Suz! That's so cool!
I have MANY quirky things, but to me colors have gender:
RED..GIRL GREY...BOY
YELLOW..GIRL
BLUE...BOY
GREEN...BOY
ORANGE...GIRL
PINK...GIRL
PURPLE..BOY
BROWN...BOY
BLACK...BOY
I see a year in a circular shape. It is kind of like that old game called 'Simon' where there are four different colors around the circle. Each color represents a season in my head! Glad to know I'm not the only one who sees things in a strange way! :)
I SWEAR I am NOT jumping on the band wagon!! I have NEVER in my life come across anyone else who thought of the months the SAME way I do!!!!! My Jan. starts on the top left and makes an oval going counter-clockwise on up to Dec. July and Aug. are at the bottom. As soon as July 4th passes I think it's fall! Crazy? Yes! Even more crazy? That someone actually articulated this picture in my head and on some random blog that I found out in cyberspace!
JoAnna,
That is hilarious! Do you really think that purple is boy? I love learning new quirks about you.
Corrie and Panda-mom,
I'm so glad I'm not the only one!! It must be more common than we think! Crazy how yours is exactly like mine, P-M!! Corrie, yours is a little more advanced than mine. :)
Do you think that the mental image has anything to do with something you learned in school? I imagine it sorta like that, too and always thought it was because of some chart my teacher used back in elementary school.
I have a mental image (spatial way) of praying, too. An order of pictures of people, things, to pray about that I go through just about everytime.
I'm mostly jealous of Suzanne's photographic memory! Now that could have helped out a lot if only I had that!
4-6 months is a wonderful stage :) I am glad that James did well in the car... that's so great!
Kim,
I don't think so, because it's counter-clockwise, and 3D.
I'm glad I posted this, because I'm enjoying reading about everyone's unique mental images!
Purple is def. a boy. Now, violet is probably a transvestdite. (spelling?)
Mine is like continuous hills where January is at the top and we slowly go down into the Spring months (March, April, May) level off for the Summer months and then in September work our way back up to January where it all starts all over again. I just realized that it is also really intertwined with the seasons too. I always thought that everyone had their own way they would visualize the months and seasons but some people don't! Interesting!
When you are playing cards how do you arrange your cards in your hand? From left to right ascending or descending? My husband and I have found that most of the time (from our random poll of friends and family) women have theirs descending and men ascending. I find this all very interesting. Thanks for the post!
I always picture the days of the week in my head. I always thought maybe I was crazy!
Each day is a square (kind of like on a calendar). They're lined up next to each other in a horizontal line and I think they go from right to left. I guess I should know but when I really started thinking about it I wasn't sure!
My thinking seems to be like a video of days. When I think of Wednesday I see a video of all the things we would usually do, work, church events, dinner, etc... Planned days anywas.....
Christmas the memory of my Grandma playing a piano... Thanksgiving is football and my other grandmas house, easter is the SUNDAY were all wear their best and brightest.. I guess mine is like a slide show of memories for each season. Most of the time it is either holidays or just day to day things but never seems to be in months. I guess if you have seen Charlotte's Web where the spider is singing about the different seasons, and how they fade on the screen from one to another, so does my mind on life...
WEIRD RIGHT....?! VERY INTERESTING TOPIC.... VERY DEEP ;)---Jo
How funny, mine is like Jacinda's! I do the same thing with the days/week, but not anything visual with months.
I've decided it was the McDonalds we mothers fed all of you - cause' I don't see any of those things - must be something you young things ate, and us mothers fed you! Ha! I'm trying really hard to come up with something that I "see" - but just don't - sigh! oh well
You are hilarious, N!! I did LOVE McD's growing up and used to love collecting the toys. That's probably what it is!
Xana,
I arrange them ascending, left to right. I'm pretty girly, so who knows what that means!
New posts of James please!
